Four days after my return from shooting Melissa & Steve’s wedding in the Dominican Republic, I had the great pleasure of shooting Karen & Lee’s wedding. You could say that wedding season is now in full swing, and it’s great to be back at it again! You’d also think that shooting a March wedding in Winnipeg merely days after being in the tropics would be quite the temperature adjustment… but it was surprisingly not that big of a transition! As we all know, we saw some very mild weather in Winnipeg this March, and on Karen and Lee’s wedding day it was no exception. Bright sun, mild breeze and unusual amounts of open grass. Could this be true?
Our first location after the getting-ready photos was at the Legislative building. With Duncan as my second photographer, I knew we were going to get some great shots, and after meeting the wedding party, I knew we were going to have a lot of fun too! I decided to use a lot of off-camera flash for lighting and (thank you to Duncan for holding my lights), we ended up getting some pretty sweet shots. After taking a few photos outside, we managed to take a little detour and stopped at my exchange district studio to get a few quick shots with just the couple. Twenty minutes later, we were off to the St. Boniface Golf Course for the ceremony. The day was relaxed, fun and full of amazing photography opportunities. Karen and Lee were wonderful and it was a great way to kick off wedding season here in Winnipeg! Félicitations vous deux !

Yesterday I took the morning off from editing and met up with my friend (and fellow photographer) Kristina for breakfast at the Black Sheep Diner (my favourite breakfast place in Winnipeg!) followed by some fun portrait shooting in my studio. Both being Nikon shooters, we shared lenses and took portraits of each other in window light and with the studio lights as well. It was pretty much the best way to take a day away from the computer screen! Here are some of my favourite snapshots of Kristina from the shoot.

I’m almost done editing Karen & Lee’s wedding photos, and thought I’d post a couple photos in the mean time. Thanks to Duncan for being my second shooter and holding some lights for me while we were shooting inside the Legislative Building! More photos to come soon….

Wedding season 2010 just got kick started for me with a fabulous trip to somewhere HOT and far away from Winnipeg’s winter! I just came back from a wonderful week of celebration in the Dominican for my friends Melissa & Steve. I have more photos to post, but while I’m editing them down to a manageable amount, here are two sneak peek photos of their wedding day. Félicitations Melissa et Steve, vous êtes très adorable !

My photo art collective, f/action, is gearing up for a much-anticipated exhibit at Winnipeg’s Cre8ery Gallery from June 3 – 8, 2010. This project, together with Ailsa Dyson, Dallas Ludwick, Duncan McNairnay and myself, has been in the works for well over a year, and we can ‘t wait for the opening night in less than 3 months. The four of us will be each presenting our own photo series based on the popular “Made in China” phrase. I’m in the editing/prepping for printing phase of my project, and I’ve included a sneak peak at my series below. Mark your calendars: the opening is on June 3!
