I’ve been photographing Janice & Darrell’s family for a few years now, and every session with them brings me such joy. We took advantage of the beautiful evening sun and met up at the English Gardens at Assiniboine Park on a warm summer evening. They brought their cute dog as always and we just wandered around for some posed & candid photos. I love their kids’ energy and enthusiasm, each have their own unique personality and pizzazz and along with their active dog, we were never short on dynamic shots! Not only that, but add on their parents’ easy-going and playful attitude, and we got to create such a fun and lively collection of family photos! They know how to play!
Yes, I’m posting this almost a year late, but this past year has been so busy and I’ve fallen so behind on blogging. I’m going to be catching up, hopefully, and for now, here’s the Derksen Family, proof that family photo sessions are fun when you let go of expectations, and having tons of fun results in tons of candid, real family portraits! 8 years ago I was on the beaches of Punta Cana taking their wedding photos… and today I’m taking photos of their incredibly CUTE daughter. Soooo much fun with these 3 who are dear friends of mine. I can’t even handle Clara’s cuteness!

I met up with this crew of three + 1 at the park for some fun family portraits as they journey closer to their new phase of family life, with 2 little boys! With the sunset glow and this family’s love abounding, we got tons of fun & playful photos, candid shots and of course some of the cute belly bump. Having photographed their wedding and previous maternity & newborn sessions, I’m looking all the more forward to the next maternity session at home, only a few weeks away. Sometimes life gets busy and you forget that time flies, your kid is growing up and you haven’t updated your family photos in a long time! This was the case for Melinda and Scott – being both hard workers in creative industries and also spending time raising a kid, they realized it had been forever since they had gotten some updated family photos. Of course, I was more than happy to capture their adorable little family unit for them and capture these affectionate moments together. We kept it short and sweet, super casual and candid and managed to get a few posed shots out of Asher too. What a cutie that kid! Here are some highlights from our shoot:
