The team at DBT Winnipeg, a mental health collective, needed updated photos for their website so I came in for an afternoon to do their headshots and interior office photography.

I was instantly greeted by some of the kindest and warmest people and walked into a beautiful space in the heart of Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District. Beautifully designed and decorated, their spaces were as warm and inviting as their clinicians.
It was a joy to take their photos and provide high-quality photos for them to update their website.
In late fall, natural window light can be tricky to work with so I came in with three off-camera lights to help light the photos. Here are a few highlights from the session including some behind the scenes photos.

Need new photos that showcase your team and space with professionalism?
Taking headshots in your office can have two different looks: one with a clean white or black backdrop, and the other option is using the natural environment as the background. This can be done using a clear, open space inside a boardroom or lobby in an office space. Or, as we did with this group, we took some of their photos with the windows overlooking the cityscape as the background. Reflections can be tricky, but with the right light placement and camera angle, it can be done!
Here’s a sample of some of their in-office corporate headshots: some with the boardroom as the background, and others with the window overlooking Winnipeg. All that is needed is space in an office and two portable studio lights:

Lindsay was looking for some casual, environmental portraits to update her headshot photos and immediately my head was filling with ideas when she mentioned the Exchange District in downtown Winnipeg as her preferred location. We met up on a warm, summer evening and had fun with lights, angles and lines. Here is a small preview from the photo shoot:
This past Spring I had the great joy of meeting up with Kate Bowler at Allure Studios to update her headshots. A portrait session with her is anything but boring or regular. Kate has this way of bursting onto the scene with instant love, constant quips (that crack me up) and really interesting observations that makes me wish I could just sit down and ask her questions for hours.
She also is a deep well of empathy and understanding – and if you ever wonder what podcasts I listen to during my hours and hours of editing… hers in on the top of my list. If you have a couple hours of driving or if you want some time to unwind, she is worth a listen. Her podcast stands out in the massive sea of content that is out there, and you will likely have an improved perspective on life after listening to her. (or at least feel like there’s a bit more sense in this senseless world)
It was my second time doing headshots for her and I always leave these sessions feeling gratitude and thankfulness. Thank you Kate for trusting me with this task – you are the loveliest!
Susan of A Little Nutrition was looking to have a photographer create some fresh, personalized new content for her website and social media last year, so we talked about setting her up on an annual photography plan where she’d be able to get several photo shoots in order to capture a variety of settings, people and content.
Sometimes the standard professional headshot photos are necessary, but for them I wanted to capture something a bit more casual, engaging and warm. Susan’s staff are all such lovely people, so it wasn’t hard to capture warmth and personality in these portraits! It was also lovely to be able to schedule an outdoor lifestyle portrait photo session at the Forks with them to capture an even more friendly and light feel to their commercial headshots.
If you’re looking to access a wonderful team of dietician services in Winnipeg, A Little Nutrition is the place to go. I saw first hand how down to earth and welcoming everyone is, and I’m sure that is a testament of the type of character that Susan looks for in her team. Find them here!
