It’s not very often that I get to be a guest at a wedding, and even less often when a long-term dear friend of mine gets married. Both happened last month, and I was overjoyed to be present at my good friend Angelina’s wedding. Angelina and I go way back, to our high school days, when we first met while having to find a locker-sharing partner. Angelina is one of those people that will tell you the honest truth (especially about clothing or shoes) and will laugh at you if you’re being ridiculous. She has kept me grounded over the years and her character is something that has shaped me along the way. And for that, I wouldn’t miss her big day for the world! Of course, I brought my camera along, and took a few pictures – especially because Angelina’s official photographer (the fabulous Candace Dunsire) was doubling as a bridesmaid and mother to a very young (and very cute) baby. Here are some highlights. Congratulations A & A! 🙂

May & June has been busy with weddings, and I’m afraid to say it, but these past few months have felt a lot like the rainy stormy summer of 2009. I keep telling myself it’ll change once July rolls around, and in the mean time, I’ve been enjoying the great stormy blue clouds that this kind of weather can add to photos (as stressful as it might be). Theresa & Paul’s wedding photos worked out great: the storm clouds were looming, but held off long enough for us to get our shots before the downpour came. Theresa’s friends were super organized: umbrellas and even had the van pulled up ready to load us up before we got completely drenched. We then scooted over to my studio in the exchange district to take some more pictures while the rain poured outside. If you’re a bride or groom and in need of an alternate indoor location for your wedding in case of rain, consider my studio : it’s a great place to get out of the rain and still get some great wedding photos! Congratulations to Theresa and Paul! When I met them last year, I knew we were going to be a good match. Easy-going, down to earth, and spunky, this couple even met me at one of my favourite coffee shops: Stella’s on Sherbrook. What more could I ask for? 🙂 Duncan and I had a great time photographing their wedding. Here are some highlights!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with a tv crew from Winnipeg’s own french film & tv production company, Les Productions Rivard, who also used to be my former employer. Working at Rivard Productions was an unforgettable experience and I’ll always treasure my time there – but a career in photography had a stronger pull on me, and alas, I had to let go of my job there to pursue what I do today. Needless to say, it was great to see some familiar faces and to work on a small piece for an episode of Viens Voir Ici (a national tv series that features francophones across Canada). The episode that I participated in also included other local francophone artists such as AndrĂ©anne Dandeneau (clothing designer extraordinaire) and the very popular and much-loved Bijou (amazing jewelry designers who happen to be very popular with a lot of my brides). The show’s host was decked out in AndrĂ©anne’s VoilĂ clothing line and jewelry by Bijou and I was her photographer for a mini fashion shoot at my studio and on Arthur Street. Thanks to the hard-working crew and enthusiasm of François, the director, we got some great shots and hopefully some great footage for the episode (set to air sometime in the Fall, on TVA). Here are some highlights from our shoot:
(Update: the episode will be aired on TVA at 11:30am CST on Saturday September 11)

Last week’s f/action photo exhibit at the Cre8ery gallery came to a close on Tuesday, and with it, all our prints came down. It was sad to dismantle it, but it had been a good few days of exhibiting our work we’d been working on for over a year and a half. Our “Made in China” exhibit drew several visitors and we were happy to share it with so many enthusiastic art-lovers. Even my dad, who needs art to be very literal and “normal” for him to understand it came out to see my abstract series! (though I think he preferred Dallas’ series of photographs from her trip to China).
My series explored the “made in China” phrase that reminds me of all the clothing I have in my closet – the disposable, cheap stuff I buy because it’s, well, cheap and easy to buy. Since knowing my husband, the idea of buying unethically made clothing has been on my mind a lot more, and work on this series brought me face to face with my closet and the origin of my clothes. I have to admit that I had a lot more clothing made in China than I realized, and to my shock, I pulled out a huge pile of it. My goal: to face it all, take it all, and create something dynamic and beautiful with it. I’m not big into finding trash and turning it into art – but this project felt a bit like that, and I was ok with it. I came face to face with the excess of clothing and material goods we seem to feel entitled to and I decided to make something productive with it, to make something I could hang on the wall and get inspired and moved by.
The result: a series of colourful shapes, lines and movement. I shot everything out of focus and with a slow shutter speed and made no rules about how to put it together. Everything came together as accidental beauties and the result actually did inspire and move me.
Here is my series, as well as some photos from the exhibit. F/action is Ailsa Dyson, Dallas Ludwick, Duncan McNairnay, and myself. Our blog can be found here and our next exhibit at the Cre8ery will be in April 2011. Stay tuned!

I just realized that I haven’t blogged in a really long time – where did the time go?? Well, things have been busy, so I can blame it on excessive shooting and finishing teaching the last of the classes of the PrairieView diploma year. Now it’s time to catch up!
I usually don’t post pictures of my clients’ weddings online before I’ve had a chance to give it to them, so lately I’ve been sitting on some photos, dying to post them, while waiting for the happy couple to return from their honeymoon. Joanna and Dan are an example of that. Their wedding was on May 8th, and while they were out gallivanting the world on their honeymoon, I was finishing their photo editing and impatiently waiting their return to Canada!
They’re now back, and photos are now in their hands – which means: blog time for me!
Joanna and Dan are no strangers to my camera – I’m sure you’ll recognize them from several shoots in the past. (studio shoots, some portfolio work I did, and lately their engagement session and now their wedding – they are regulars!)
Needless to say, they are good friends of mine and I was more than honoured to photograph their beautiful wedding at the Fort Garry Hotel. I never get tired of photographing them! It was so sweet to see them get married (by none other than Sean, another good friend of ours (yes the alphabet soup one), who also married my husband and I) and it took everything in me not to cry at the ceremony. (besides, I had a job to do!)
So here they are, pictures from the wedding. If you want to see the complete album go to my facebook album.
