When the whole family is gathering for a dinner at the grandparents’ house, scheduling a photo shoot one hour before at the same location is a great idea! That’s what Sharon did for her family. I arrived at their house just before dinner so we could take photos of everyone before their sit-down meal. Organizing different schedules, coordinating outfits, and making sure we have the location and perfect lighting can take a lot of effort… but it’s always worth it! Here are some highlights from my time together with them. What a fun family with a beautiful connection. Lots of love here!
It’s the most wonderful time of year for family portraits, and if there’s one thing I can recommend, it’s booking your photo shoot date in advance to make sure you get the best day and the best light! September is very busy with bookings, so contacting me in early Summer will ensure you get your preferred date in the fall.
In my 20+ years of taking portraits, I have found that September 30th is the best day of the year for colours in the trees and that golden sunlight at dawn and dusk. Winnipeg’s fall season is so short, so I would recommend booking your photo shoot near that date to maximize on the beauty of the season.
This family had their photos done on September 30th between 9am and 10am, and the results were gorgeous. They chose Assiniboine Forest as their location and knowing how busy this place gets with other photographers on fall evenings, going in the morning was a smart choice! The forest was quieter, and we almost had the entire place to ourselves.
If you’re looking to update your family photos, remember that late September and early October are ideal, and scheduling the photos in the second hour after sunrise or before sunset will get you that gorgeous light on a sunny day.
If you have any questions, just contact me and I can send you location ideas, date & time recommendations as well as tips for what to wear for your session!
Winnipeg’s Exchange District is one of the city’s most densely creative and architecturally interesting locations for a photo shoot. I love coming downtown for family photo sessions because there is just so much visual diversity! In just over an hour we covered a lot of ground and captured lots of fun shots. Here are some of my favourites from my time with the Reid family last Fall:
It was time for updated photos for the lovely Blais Family so they chose King’s Park for their session this summer. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Sunday evening and the park was full of people! Can’t blame them, it was a warm summer evening and King’s Park is such a treasure to discover. There’s a waterfall area, beautiful walking bridges, a flower labyrinth garden, pagodas, pergolas, and everything else in between! (Did I mention the off-leash dog park too?! We saw some pretty cute pups on our way through!)
Their family is nothing but fun to photograph and the session was not lacking laughs and a few goofy shots too. They have a beautiful dynamic and I took WAY too many frames, but I look forward to sharing the full gallery of photos with them. For now, here’s their (not so small) preview!
I met up with Jill and Harry at HarbourView park this week to take their family photos and there were sooooooo many smiles from this adorable little crew! Their two girls were just the cutest little kids ever and with a third on the way, this family is about to get a whole lot cuter! Thanks Jill & Harry for such a beautiful session with your family, I had such a lovely time with you!
