Recently I teamed up with a talented friend of mine on a website project for one of his clients: Manu-Fab. My friend, Ryan Johnson, who’s building Manu-Fab a new website, asked me to join him out in Newton, Manitoba to meet the owner of Manu-Fab and take some pictures for their upcoming new website. It was a gorgeous day out in rural Manitoba where we took some quick headshots of the office staff then got a full tour of their manufacturing factory where I learned a great deal about pre-fabricated building components, including roof-truss systems and floor trusses. (I just like using those fancy terms like if I’m a structural engineering expert!) It was actually a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see the final product that Ryan’s working on.

Labour day weekend wedding! Teri & Mark put together a fabulous day, full of surprise goodies (if I might say so myself!), including: cute kids, a photogenic wedding party, a reception room decorated in hot pink and creative lighting (great job bridal party!), as well as an incredible 5-course meal (including a palette cleanser!!) at the Greenwood Inn, and all the while surrounded by amazing family and friends. A special shout out to Dave, Teri’s dad, who first contacted me about his daughter’s wedding – this guy loves his daughter and expresses it in everything he does. His enthusiasm and dedication to her day were unmistakable! This was a fun wedding, and the pictures turned out beautifully. What a gorgeous couple – thanks Teri & Mark for allowing me the pleasure of photographing your special day! Duncan and I were happy to be there for you!

Dave & his daughter!
And I thought I’d include a few of Duncan’s shots (my second photographer), as I think he did a stellar job and some of these shots are worth blogging!

Ever wondered what your photos looked like before your photographer edited them? Photo editing goes a long way in getting you amazing results. And I would venture to say that almost half of a photographer’s artistic talent and work comes through in their editing process. This is a process which I absolutely LOVE and it never ceases to fascinate me. For example, you can turn this (left)…. into this (right):
BEFORE AFTER

I was first introduced to Adobe Lightroom in 2007, in its year of infancy, when the program was new and digital photographers were slowly making the switch from Photoshop. After graduating from photography school in 2008, I jumped deeper into the world of Lightroom editing and soon after, started teaching it to photo enthusiasts as well as to long-time digital photographers. Learning digital photography involves shooting classes just as much as editing classes, which to me is half the fun!
Not only am I in love with the program, but I am constantly impressed and wowed by all its wonderful editing and organizing tools, which I guess makes me quite the Lightroom geek. I often spend countless hours in front of my iMac screen, playing with settings, trying new looks and posting the results on facebook.
So here’s a little peek into this wonderful world I love so much – a collection of my photos, before and after the editing process:

What does it take to get a great headshot? Well, not as much as you’d think. At least not on your part. If you’re not a model or if you feel awkward in front of a camera, worry not! It doesn’t take lots of experience or a top-model face to get a great headshot. In the following photos, although certainly still very gorgeous girls, my subjects have no modeling experience, and Jocelyne (the dark-haired girl) has never even had professional photos taken before! The beauty of portraiture is that with the right vision, your true nature will come out and that guarantees a stellar portrait. I started getting into portraiture almost 5 years ago, and since my first digital portrait shoot, I never looked back. The portrait bug had gotten me. I love making people feel relaxed and having fun during a shoot. Of course, it can feel awkward being the subject of so many photos (trust me, I’ve been in front of cameras before, and I’m not comfortable being photographed!)… but there is no awkwardness too difficult that can’t be overcome. Especially when the photographer is relentless in capturing that one awesome shot!
So if you’re needing a new bio picture, a headshot for your resume, website or portfolio, take the plunge! I love meeting new people, finding out about their passions and interests, and discovering their true nature. There’s nothing better than a simple headshot that introduces you to the world with honesty, simplicity and impact.

I just met Teri & Mark a few months ago, and since then lots has happened! We had the engagement photo session at the end of July, in the middle of busy wedding season for me – and as it turns out, I never got around to blogging their photos! So here they are today. The funny thing is that their wedding already happened last weekend, and as I type, I’m finishing up the last of the edits on their wedding photos. I knew from their engagement session that the wedding would produce even more amazing photos – and now I can’t wait to also blog their wedding photos! But first things first… here are their engagement photos, shot on a gorgeous July evening at the English Gardens at Assiniboine Park….
