Valérie et Mario: photos de mariage

If I can sum up this wedding day in one word, it would be FUN. I had such a great time with Valérie and Mario! Not only was it an all-French wedding (so glad to be part of it as a francophone photographer!), but it also incorporated a lot of different French-Canadians from all across the country: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Québec! (not surprising when you have a fransaskois groom and a franco-manitobaine bride who both live in Ottawa. Now’s there’s a wide mix!) We had a blast, and I think that has to do with Valérie’s infectious smile and laugh and Mario’s easy-going and care-free demeanor. This couple knew how to have fun, enjoy their day and celebrate their union of love with all their friends and family. It was an honour to witness their marriage to each other and the celebrations that surrounded them. They even got me teary-eyed at the ceremony when Mario sang a song he wrote for Valérie! It reminded me of my own wedding and it certainly hit home: this love’s real. And it moved everyone who was present. As cliché as this is, I have to say what I kept hearing everyone else say too: they might just be the perfect couple!

The wedding party got ready at the Fairmont in downtown Winnipeg, and then headed off to Lorette’s beautiful church for their ceremony, and then on to Fort Gibraltar for family photos and then the Millennium centre for more photos and a super fun stand up reception. This was my second stand up reception of the 2011 wedding season, and I’m really starting to like this concept. There are so many more photos I’d like to blog, but there’s no room for that! So here’s a highlight, and if you want to see more photos, head over to my facebook page.

Félicitation Valérie et Mario! J’ai hâte de vous revoir dans quelques semaines!

Elvira’s Grandchildren: Winnipeg Portrait Photography

The other day I had the pleasure of meeting Elvira’s grandkids – and it’s pretty obvious why she’s so proud of them! What. a. cute. bunch. I love these kids!! Little 7-month-old baby Neev had such a fun character! Great expressions, so genuinely enthusiastic and cute way beyond words! I wanted to take her home! And then there was Ivan (almost 4 years old) – the best kid to photograph EVER. He was very personable, easy to connect with and amazingly talented at posing naturally for the camera! I hardly had to direct him – he was a pro!! Not only did he have a great disposition, but he was also super photogenic (as I’m sure you can tell)! Finally we had 10-month-old Maxwell, who wasn’t having a great day (probably tired or needing a nap), but despite it all, he also did amazingly well. And when he finally cracked a smile, it was definitely worth all the wait! What a cutie! We spent about an hour in the studio and got tons of photos which I’ve been super excited about blogging. And now the wait’s over, check them out – the best bunch of kids ever! Thanks Elvira for sharing them for just a short while, I loved this little trio!

Lisa & Neil: Manitoba Beach Wedding

When I first met with Lisa and Neil last November and they told me all about their wedding plans and ideas, I got super excited! They had plans to get married on the beach at Victoria Beach where their family has a cabin, do some photos in the area and have a super fun stand-up reception at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. Need I say more? I was thrilled when they said YES to me photographing their wedding, and the rest has been a countdown to their day. And you could say their day was pretty much perfect! (except for a slight location change) Victoria Beach wasn’t suitable for the ceremony due to flood damage, so instead they got married on the beach “next door”, which is at the end of Albert Beach. I spent all my childhood summers at Albert Beach, so shooting a ceremony there meant a lot to me. I do believe it is the best beach in the world – great sand, gorgeous scenery and beautiful Lake Winnipeg. I was thrilled to be “at work” on the beach!

The sun was hot, the sky was beautiful, and of course the couple was stunning! Lisa really outdid herself – an alternative wedding dress, a gorgeous feather hairpiece and summer shoes. Neil looked great too, and the wedding party wore coordinating colours without being too matchy-matchy. Along with the flowers, this was a great looking bunch! (in case you’re interested, the hairpiece was created by the very talented HairWare by Betsy. If you’re wanting one, give her a shout! hairware1.bands@gmail.com)

After the ceremony, we did wedding party photos at Sandy Hills (a large sand cliff nearby), at their cabin and in a beautiful forest along the highway. We were on a tight schedule, but I wish we could’ve stayed there forever! The scenery was beautiful and it brought me back to my childhood, spending long summer days exploring majestic tranquil forests and bumming around on the beach under a hot sun.

We then headed back to the city for the next best part: their stand up reception at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. There, again, we were treated to beautiful decor including tons of hand-made origami cranes and a photo clothesline. They also had casino tables, a deconstructed candy bar and of course delicious food & an amazing cake buffet. The work they put into the wedding definitely showed, and I was really happy to be a part of it all. Now, enough blabbing, here are some of their photos! Congratulations Lisa & Neil!!

This is my second wedding in a row where there is a dog ring bearer at the ceremony! I love it!
