It’s been wonderful reconnecting with Linette after first meeting her several years ago at a friend’s wedding. Now that her wedding is coming up this year, we’ve had the chance to chat about their vision for their day and take engagement photos for them with their super cute little dog. We went to Henteleff Park in south Winnipeg on a beautiful, sunny evening and captured so many great moments of their love and dynamic together. Knowing that she was a bit nervous and shy coming into the photo session, I wanted to make sure that frame of mind wasn’t leading her. Rather, we started with super basic, candid set up shots and soon before she even knew it, they were both totally in their element, completely connected with each other and showing off the true colours of their love. I always tell people that the authenticity of their relationship is what I’m after, and once I have them comfortable and in the zone with each other, all that anxiety and shyness melts away. These two are absolutely lovely, generous human beings with big hearts and tight chemistry. I can’t wait to photograph their fall wedding in Winnipeg this October!

I met Julia and Simeon earlier this year and what a treat it was to learn more about their love story, how they met and their big plans for tying the knot later this season. They’re such lovely people and together they are joining their love and life and I couldn’t be more honoured to photograph their journey. Yesterday we met up in Royalwood where they had their first date: walking on the trails inside Bois-des-Esprits. We even found the exact bench where they sat on the moment Julia knew that he was going to be her forever one. The blossoms are now out, and even though Winnipeg is in desperate need of some rain, we still found pockets of greenery and beautiful flowering trees to compliment the heart of this session. Just a few more weeks before they their wedding day. Can’t wait!

When is the best time of day for outdoor engagement photos? What are ideas for engagement sessions that won’t feel too posed, “put together” or awkward? Sometimes my clients don’t know to ask those questions, but I’ll be the first to dive right into those important details that are the foundation for my favourite photo shoots. That golden evening light, with just a few (or zero!) clouds… A casual walk at the park with your pet with not much on the agenda except impromptu conversations and watching the sun set…

With Chloé and Scott we originally had postponed their engagement session because our initial shoot date had a very boring overcast sky. Knowing that these two were totally ok to postpone their session until we had a day with a better sky & sun made me so happy. I also knew that Scott’s idea of a good time does NOT involve being in front of the camera, so making sure to prove his expectations wrong included me leading this session into a casual & stress-free walk in the park (literally) with their dog.

And the results were great! A lot of the photos were taken in mid-walk, in mid-conversation and showcased their natural sides. Yes, being followed by a photographer isn’t the most relaxing thing in the world for some people (and I get that!) but turning this into a casual date and capturing some sweet authentic moments is what makes me love photographing couples so much. It was also my first time meeting Scott and seeing how these two know how to have fun together and are playful, made me all the more excited to photograph their wedding. Here’s a preview from our lovely summer evening at HarbourView park. It was such a fun and beautiful evening!

Jessica and Mike got married on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in July and every location they chose added so much to the beauty and meaning of their day. It was a true honour to create these images for them all the while documenting the story of their day unfolding before us. The joy and connection they share is so sweet to watch and seeing them so happy was definitely the highlight of the day, not only for me but I’m sure for all their guests too! They kept their day simple, elegant and truly meaningful. Starting with getting ready photos at the historic Fort Garry Hotel, followed by a lovely ceremony at the gorgeous Westminster Church, then on to the Exchange District and City Hall for some wedding portraits, and ending off the wedding celebrations with a super fun reception at St. Charles Country Club. From start to finish, this wedding day was a perfect reflection of these two! Here are some highlights… but make sure you scroll down to the end to see an adorable photo of Jessica dancing with her grandfather!

As 2016 comes to a close, I look back on all my photo sessions from the past year with joy and a thankful heart. 2016 was my busiest year since I started 9 years ago, and all the hard work was 100% worth it for being able to capture all these moments of love and togetherness. To everyone who asked me to photograph them: thank you from the bottom of my heart, your stories are inspiring and they continue to deepen my love for photography! This is just a small handful of highlights, wish I could include each and every shoot from 2016!
Looking forward to all that 2017 has to offer – happy new year everyone!
