Nine months pregnant and this momma-to-be is absolutely glowing! Pregnancy looks great on her and what a gorgeous setting it was to capture her maternity photos!
You may remember these guys from a few years’ back with their winter portrait session. Such great people and now really close to being amazing parents! Seeing Sandra this pregnant reminds me of my own recent pregnancy, and the tendency for us mothers-to-be to constantly caress and hold our large belly. It’s like second nature to do it, and I love seeing that bond of love already forming, even before the baby is born. Isn’t pregnancy beautiful??
Félicitations Sandra – j’ai tellement hâte de rencontrer ton petit bébé!!

A few Sundays ago I had the pleasure of meeting up with the large Ronald clan at Island Park in Portage La Prairie for a multi-family photo session. It was a beautiful afternoon, a lovely park and a great bunch! Lots of smiles, laughs and rolling around in the grass. These guys love having fun and I had a great time capturing it all! And not to mention some CUTE KIDS. Even a super fresh one – a newborn baby boy! Here are the highlights from our time at the park. Enjoy! 🙂

Congratulations to Kyla & Darrin – they got married today and we got tons of photos! (from tons of locations!) We were rushing a bit, but we got all our locations in… which is awesome. I’m still haven’t gone through all my photos yet, so the sneak peek comes from a few photos at the start of our afternoon together. I love this first one: their facial expressions tell you EXACTLY how they felt on their wedding day: happy. Woot!

I spent the day at the lake yesterday surrounded by lots of family… including these two beautiful ladies: my cousin Julie and my cousin (is it once removed?) Hannah. I remember when she was just a baby, so seeing her all grown up makes me feel old! She’s a great kid and so adorable – and lucky me – loves the camera too! If you follow my blog, you know how I loooove evening light. (as photographers, who doesn’t??) And taking pictures on a Manitoba beach is even better – Albert Beach that is, my favourite place on earth. Here are a few portraits of the girls, just for fun. 🙂 Love you guys!

Julie & Sean’s wedding at Bergmann’s was definitely a photography highlight for me this summer – these guys know how to throw a great party with great style! As a guest, this is definitely the type of wedding you’d love to attend. We started the evening with a quick half-hour couple portrait session on the streets outside Bergmann’s, followed by family formals. We then headed straight into the evening wedding reception. It was a casual stand-up reception, all while keeping it classy and fun. Half-way through the evening Julie and Sean got married in a romantically-lit room off to the side in front of all their friends and family, followed by some dancing and partying. I was particularly thrilled to hear that DJ Mama Cutsworth was going to be there. So fun! She played some Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Bobby Darrin, and what I thought was the best wedding first dance song ever: Slow Show by the National (I love that band!). Oh, and did I mention the DRESS?! I’m a big fan of short wedding dresses, and I was pretty excited to see Julie in hers. It looked amazing on her! All in all, everything totally reflected them as a couple and it made for a perfect Friday night wedding celebration! There were a lot of awesome people behind the whole event, some of which I thought were worth mentioning: Venue: Bergmann’s on Lombard DJ: Mama Cuttsworth Bride’s skirt and top: Jason Wu, Belt: Oscar de la Renta Shoes: Jimmy Choo Hair: Kitty, Berns and Black Make up: Joanne, Edward Carriere Groom’s suit: Harry Rosen, Shoes: Ferragamo Wedding planners and decor: Soirée Event Planning Wedding Commissioner: Patricia Simko Flowers: McDiarmid Flowers Congratulations Julie and Sean! I had a lot of fun with you guys and I’m so glad to have been a part of it. All the best to you in the many years to come!

Just over a week ago I had the privilege of photographing Laura and Chris wedding at St. Charles Country Club – a piece of paradise in the middle of our city of Winnipeg. Beautiful! And what a perfect backdrop for this stunning couple. Simple elegance, gorgeous details and a breathtaking wedding event: this was a wedding I thoroughly enjoyed shooting! For starters, take a look at Laura. Her presence made the room glow. She was so genuine and had an incredibly beautiful personality – it was such a joy being around her! After a few photos with the girls, the guys arrived at St. Charles and I had a ton of fun taking photos of them, including a human pyramid. Yes, my first human pyramid ever, at a wedding! You can tell that Chris is an amazing guy just by looking at his groomsmen – they were all having fun, in such a great mood and up for anything! Totally celebrating and supporting him on his special day with Laura.
You probably know this, but as fun as the wedding party was, my favourite moments are the alone time I take with the couple to get super gorgeous and romantic photos. Laura and Chris were great – they provided me with the best love chemistry ever! Every time I look at their photos I immediately remember the love and ease they had between each other. A strong bond and an enduring love. I love it when I see that!
Congratulations you two – not only were you a ton of fun to be with, but you also allowed me to create timeless images of your memorable day. Thank you!! Wishing you all the best as you continue on your journey of love, friendship and laughter!
PS: scroll down to the very bottom… a very highly-anticipated wedding cake was revealed… I bet you’ve never seen anything like this before!

Most unusual wedding cake ever… the football-crashed wedding cake! Yes, you heard me right. Check it out – all real cake material, that is NOT a real football. Made by the obviously super talented Nina from the Cake Studio. The idea was a collaboration between Laura and Chris, who really wanted to incorporate football into their wedding theme. What a creative way of doing that, I say!

For even more photos from Laura and Chris’ wedding (yes, there are more!), check out my facebook page.

Julie and Sean, you outdid yourselves. What a fabulous evening party wedding event last night! And what can I say – you both looked stunning. I don’t know if you know, but I’m super excited about editing these photos. Just take a look at the sneak peek… wouldn’t you be?? More to come soon soon soon….

Earlier this year I got an e-mail from a couple in England asking if I’d want to come to Fort Frances this summer and photograph their wedding at the lake. It didn’t take much convincing on my part – road trip to Ontario? wedding at the lake in the Canadian Shield? two wedding photographers who want ME to photograph THEIR wedding?? It was a huge honour to have been asked and I’m so excited to say that the wedding and the couple exceeded all my expectations.
Joanne and Sam met with me via Skype a week before their wedding – our first face-to-face chat. I’d never photographed for someone without first meeting them, and Skype was the best way to attempt a “real” meeting! But when Duncan and I actually showed up on the wedding day at Joanne’s father’s house on the lake – I was blown away! The property was gorgeous, their friends and family were absolutely delightful and Joanne and Sam were the sweetest, friendliest couple ever! We were only there for 4 short hours, but I wish we could have stayed much longer. But with 10 hours of driving in total and another wedding to shoot the very next day in Winnipeg, there was no time to stick around!
We made the most of it, and this was one of my most memorable wedding shoots ever. Joanne and Sam have been shooting weddings for 5 years now, so they knew what they liked and what they didn’t like. And because of this, and also because of their creativity and love of beauty, their wedding day was planned out wonderfully, to the very last detail. Where to begin? They had heart-shaped birch bark cutouts with stitched edges hanging from trees, fun fabric garlands, birch bark vases filled with wild flowers, a lovely live performance with ukelele, flute and singing by some family members, a 67 ford mustang, custom-made waist coats by Joanne’s mother, a vintage pocket watch, wild flower confetti, Pimm’s (a traditional English celebratory wedding drink), a live band for the outdoor reception (featuring blue grass music!), a super-fun boat ride on the lake to finish off the photo session…. and the list goes on…
Needless to say it was a photographer’s paradise, and I absolutely loved photographing it all!
Now on to Joanne and Sam – I wish everyone could have witnessed their ceremony. Sam wrote the most eloquent and poetic wedding vows ever that he and Joanne said to each other. I’m pretty sure they got everyone teary-eyed (including me)! It was an honour to have been a witness into a short window of time at Joanne and Sam’s celebration of love. Just being around them reminded me of the deep roots that love plants in two people. They’re intertwined and connected – and it was such a treat being able to photograph them together!
Now, enough with my blabbing, here are the photos!

2011 has marked the year of the hottest and driest summer weather since I started shooting weddings – but there was one day where we got a bit of rain, and that happened to be on Katie and Graham’s wedding day. But I think they hardly noticed the rain – these two were having so much fun that nothing could stop them!
I first met Katie and Graham last year and when I heard that their colour scheme was going to feature pink I was getting excited to see the many ways Katie was going to incorporate hot pink into her day. (yes, even pink ties for the guys!… much to Graham’s chagrin) I must say she pulled it off, even her shoes were hard to miss! And the guys looked great too! (this coming from a girl whose husband had his groomsmen wear hot pink shirts on our wedding day. OH YES!)
Katie and Graham were so much fun to be around – we laughed a lot that day and there was never a dull moment! It was really special seeing the way that Graham cracked up Katie with all his jokes and silliness. I think he really is a kid at heart, and he definitely knows how to be the life of the party – and more importantly, the light of Katie’s life. Katie was radiant in her beautiful wedding dress – and there was a spark in Graham’s eye every time he looked at her. He truly adores her and she’s so madly in love with him!
We did a lot of our photos at Fort Whyte Centre – a place that holds a lot of meaning and memories for these two. I always love being there, and taking their photos there was definitely a highlight of the day for me.
Katie and Graham – I wish you all the best as you continue on your journey of life together – you are definitely meant to be!

Katie and Graham also asked me to take a photo of each of the guests at the reception, so I set up some lights at the end of the receiving line, and snapped a photo of each guest as they came by. Here are some of the great highlights:

After rushing back home from Ontario Friday night (and getting a good night’s sleep!) I was up and ready for Laura & Chris’ much anticipated wedding on Saturday at St. Charles Country Club. The setting was gorgeous and the bride – well, she was bridal-magazine-model-stunning! And together, they make an amazing couple to photograph. The wedding photos are now piling up from this weekend and I can’t wait to start editing! Here are a few gems from yesterday’s wedding. I have a huge (and fun!) family photo shoot to photograph today, and after that, let the wedding photo editing begin!!
Congrats you two!

On Friday I had the pleasure of road tripping to my wedding shoot — all the way in Ontario! Joanne and Sam flew over to Canada from England to get married at Joanne’s dad’s house on the lake, just East of Fort Frances. I had never seen the property nor had I met Joanne and Sam in person yet… and what a wonderful surprise was in store for me! Both the location and the couple were even more amazing than I had expected! I have much more to blog about, but for now, here’s a sneak peek from Friday’s wedding.

I have such a great job – not only do I get to exercise creativity, but I also get to watch adorable little munchkins grow up! I first met these twins when they turned 6 months old, and we had a great shoot at the studio. Now, 8 months later, I got to see them again! This time we went to the park and had some fun exploring, running around and looking at flowers and plants. It’s amazing how fast babies grow, and now they’re already walking and talking! Beth and Danny are certainly enjoying it all – their love for these two kids is written all over their faces. What a joy to be there to capture it all! Here is a small portion of the photos from my session with Nhien & Ainsleigh – these guys are just too cute!!
(check out the two separate photos of them each walking with their arms bent up – the photos were taken at two separate times, and it’s only when I was editing that I noticed they had the same exact walking pose! They may have two completely different personalities, but they still have a bit of that inadvertent twin thing going on! I love it!)

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing Crystal and Jarrett’s wedding. It was a hot hot summer day in Winnipeg, but that didn’t stop the couple from enjoying every moment of it! (and by hot, I’m talking record-breaking hot!) It was so exciting to finally be at their wedding, especially after having such a great time with them at their engagement session last year. The funny thing is that last year we were fighting the mosquitoes… and my thought after that initial session was that nothing could ever stop these guys. So true – because again, this year not even the scorching Winnipeg summer climate could even stop them!
They had a lovely outdoor ceremony at Rossmere Country Club and then we headed to Waterfront Drive and the Exchange District for wedding party photos. We finished the afternoon at the Hamilton Building. I absolutely adore that location! The light is breathtaking and the architecture is beautiful – and with a gorgeous bride like Crystal, I was in photography heaven!
So here they are, a collection of their wedding photos. It was such a delight witnessing true love like that – their chemistry was evident and their bond extremely strong. Lots of tears were shed, and I think I saw one of the sweetest father daughter dances ever! I added a few photos of that – the love her father has for her was incredibly sweet.
Congratulations Crystal and Jarrett! You were an absolute delight!

Alyssa and Marshall got married last Sunday, July 10th at Bridge Golf Course – and I have to say, this location is starting to grow more and more on me. It is absolutely beautiful out there! What was even better was the 4 hours I had with Alyssa and Marshall on their wedding day – such an adorable couple!! Alyssa was gorgeous and so easy to photograph, and Marshall was her adoring groom – radiating with love and joy. They were so sweet together, and it was such a delight following them on their wedding day, taking pre-ceremony photos with them alone on the golf course. We had free reign – a photographer’s paradise!
After a super romantic drive around the course, we met up with their wedding party and had a ton of fun taking photos with them. Tons of smiles and laughter and never a dull moment. These guys were so happy to be there and super excited to be celebrating with Alyssa and Marshall on their wedding day. After the wedding party photos we went inside for a lovely ceremony followed by some family photos and candid photos of mingling guests. Here’s a portion of their day, in photos. Congratulations you two!! You are proof that love is as sweet as it is beautiful!

Crystal and Jarrett got married yesterday on what has to have been the HOTTEST wedding day I’ve ever photographed! But that didn’t slow these guys down… Crystal and Jarrett were beaming with love – the whole day! What a joy it was to be around them. And here’s a sneak peek! This was a candid photo that was taken right after the pair got married. Family photos were done, so Crystal was heading back into the country club to round up her wedding party to go take photos in the Exchange District. The sun was behind her, a breeze caught her veil, I dipped down on one knee and snapped the photo. Next thing I knew, she had disappeared inside, I stole a glance at the back of my camera and got pretty excited about this candid moment: Crystal beaming with joy on her sunny wedding day!
Congrats you two. I can’t wait to start editing the rest of your photos!

If I can sum up this wedding day in one word, it would be FUN. I had such a great time with Valérie and Mario! Not only was it an all-French wedding (so glad to be part of it as a francophone photographer!), but it also incorporated a lot of different French-Canadians from all across the country: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Québec! (not surprising when you have a fransaskois groom and a franco-manitobaine bride who both live in Ottawa. Now’s there’s a wide mix!) We had a blast, and I think that has to do with Valérie’s infectious smile and laugh and Mario’s easy-going and care-free demeanor. This couple knew how to have fun, enjoy their day and celebrate their union of love with all their friends and family. It was an honour to witness their marriage to each other and the celebrations that surrounded them. They even got me teary-eyed at the ceremony when Mario sang a song he wrote for Valérie! It reminded me of my own wedding and it certainly hit home: this love’s real. And it moved everyone who was present. As cliché as this is, I have to say what I kept hearing everyone else say too: they might just be the perfect couple!
The wedding party got ready at the Fairmont in downtown Winnipeg, and then headed off to Lorette’s beautiful church for their ceremony, and then on to Fort Gibraltar for family photos and then the Millennium centre for more photos and a super fun stand up reception. This was my second stand up reception of the 2011 wedding season, and I’m really starting to like this concept. There are so many more photos I’d like to blog, but there’s no room for that! So here’s a highlight, and if you want to see more photos, head over to my facebook page.
Félicitation Valérie et Mario! J’ai hâte de vous revoir dans quelques semaines!

The other day I had the pleasure of meeting Elvira’s grandkids – and it’s pretty obvious why she’s so proud of them! What. a. cute. bunch. I love these kids!! Little 7-month-old baby Neev had such a fun character! Great expressions, so genuinely enthusiastic and cute way beyond words! I wanted to take her home! And then there was Ivan (almost 4 years old) – the best kid to photograph EVER. He was very personable, easy to connect with and amazingly talented at posing naturally for the camera! I hardly had to direct him – he was a pro!! Not only did he have a great disposition, but he was also super photogenic (as I’m sure you can tell)! Finally we had 10-month-old Maxwell, who wasn’t having a great day (probably tired or needing a nap), but despite it all, he also did amazingly well. And when he finally cracked a smile, it was definitely worth all the wait! What a cutie! We spent about an hour in the studio and got tons of photos which I’ve been super excited about blogging. And now the wait’s over, check them out – the best bunch of kids ever! Thanks Elvira for sharing them for just a short while, I loved this little trio!

When I first met with Lisa and Neil last November and they told me all about their wedding plans and ideas, I got super excited! They had plans to get married on the beach at Victoria Beach where their family has a cabin, do some photos in the area and have a super fun stand-up reception at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. Need I say more? I was thrilled when they said YES to me photographing their wedding, and the rest has been a countdown to their day. And you could say their day was pretty much perfect! (except for a slight location change) Victoria Beach wasn’t suitable for the ceremony due to flood damage, so instead they got married on the beach “next door”, which is at the end of Albert Beach. I spent all my childhood summers at Albert Beach, so shooting a ceremony there meant a lot to me. I do believe it is the best beach in the world – great sand, gorgeous scenery and beautiful Lake Winnipeg. I was thrilled to be “at work” on the beach!
The sun was hot, the sky was beautiful, and of course the couple was stunning! Lisa really outdid herself – an alternative wedding dress, a gorgeous feather hairpiece and summer shoes. Neil looked great too, and the wedding party wore coordinating colours without being too matchy-matchy. Along with the flowers, this was a great looking bunch! (in case you’re interested, the hairpiece was created by the very talented HairWare by Betsy. If you’re wanting one, give her a shout! hairware1.bands@gmail.com)
After the ceremony, we did wedding party photos at Sandy Hills (a large sand cliff nearby), at their cabin and in a beautiful forest along the highway. We were on a tight schedule, but I wish we could’ve stayed there forever! The scenery was beautiful and it brought me back to my childhood, spending long summer days exploring majestic tranquil forests and bumming around on the beach under a hot sun.
We then headed back to the city for the next best part: their stand up reception at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. There, again, we were treated to beautiful decor including tons of hand-made origami cranes and a photo clothesline. They also had casino tables, a deconstructed candy bar and of course delicious food & an amazing cake buffet. The work they put into the wedding definitely showed, and I was really happy to be a part of it all. Now, enough blabbing, here are some of their photos! Congratulations Lisa & Neil!!

This is my second wedding in a row where there is a dog ring bearer at the ceremony! I love it!

I’m so excited to finally post photos from Megan & Jeremy’s wedding day – my first wedding of the 2011 season! After a long winter break (busy at home with a new baby!), I’m so glad to be back in the swing of things. And there’s no better way to kick it off than with this beautiful couple.
I first met Megan and Jeremy at a destination wedding I shot last year for Jeremy’s brother. They weren’t engaged yet, but it definitely looked like it was only a matter of time before a ring would appear. These guys are made for each other: they both have a huge passion for traveling the world and cycling, all while sharing an amazing chemistry and a rock solid friendship. Oh, and let’s not forget their other big love: their dog Flint! (who got to be the ring bearer)
I had an amazing time shooting their engagement photos, and as I was watching Megan counting down the days to the wedding on Facebook, I got more and more excited to shoot their wedding!
So here it is…. a beautiful wedding, a stunning couple and an enduring love. Congratulations Megan & Jeremy!
featured on weddingsinwinnipeg.ca!

The day started off with getting ready photos with the girls, while my second photographer (the amazing and talented Duncan McNairnay) photographed the guys getting ready. After a beautiful ceremony (and a heart-felt exchange of vows!), we headed to Red River College and the Exchange District for some wedding party photos. We ended at Niakwa Country Club for some greenery photos and the reception.

I’ve been so spoiled lately, so many baby shoots in the last few months! I get so excited about meeting all these new babies, and Isla was certainly one I won’t forget! She has gorgeous smiling eyes and a beautiful personality. She is just over three and half months old and so full of life! I went a little overboard with taking photos, and when it came down to picking some for the blog post, I just couldn’t help but post a lot. So here they are. I can’t get enough of this cute girl! Congratulations Matt & Ashley, she is a treasure!

Time flies. Yes, people say that a lot, but it’s so true! They really do grow up so fast. I had a last minute shoot at my studio this afternoon, and because I didn’t have time to find a babysitter, I toted Élise along and snapped a few shots of her while waiting for my client. I can’t get over how cute she is! Especially in white. Je t’aime Élise!!
